Breaking the Game Down

Breaking the Game Down

After a recently spending some time in the presence of Raymond Verheijen I have come away with a new perspective on coaching. The game (and coaching) for that matter is made far too complex.

Take a minute to digest every coaching moment into the following 3 steps – which must be completed in order (no matter what age or level);

  1. Communication – Verbal and visual clues taken from team mates and the environment the players are in.
  2. Decision Making – Using the information gathered to make a decision on what to you intend to do as a player.
  3. The Execution – Can a player technically execute the desired move.

It seems so simple but if we can get our players to understand their surroundings and make informed decisions based upon them then we are one step further than most coaches who believe that technique is everything.
